I was great at the Fort Collins REI today by a sign that said they were changing their pet policy. After April 5, only service animals will be allowed inside. I really like to buy things from REI but at the same time I'm very irritated by the rule change. At the very least, I'll be sending them an email to see if I can get an explanation and to let them know that I'll be happy to shop at Jax for my outdoor gear (where my dog is welcome).
We got kicked out of REI in Denver at the flag ship store a while back cause I was carring Olive in my arms. The manager said it was due to them having a Starbucks in the building and they can't mix food and pets. Meanwhile I've taken Olive to Sonoda's and eaten on the patio a bunch of times - mear steps away from raw fish. Ah well.
ReplyDeleteI don't get the flagship store. The Starbucks is tucked WAY into a corner, and there's almost always a person at the entrance that could tell you not to bring your dog in there. That may be out of their hands though due to health regulations. The coffee shop down the street from me is nice enough to let me bring my dog inside. Screw the rules! :)
ReplyDeleteCan we stop people from bringing slobbering children?
ReplyDeletewow, I'm surprised your store is just now changing to that policy. My store has been that way since I've worked there.
ReplyDeleteYou may want to send your message to corporate. It's not by management's choice. Definitely not the salespeople's choice. We all love dogs.
The crazy thing about this rule is there are people so unwilling to comply -yet unwilling to shop elsewhere- that they've procured false "service animal" vests for their pets so they can bring them inside. I'm sorry sir, but you chihuahua is obvisouly not a seeing-eye dog.
We have a sign by customer service that says unattended children will be sent home with candy and a puppy.
ReplyDeletewell that's b.s. we dont' even have a starbucks in our store. we do have food though. Lots of trail food that's doggie height.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way about "Bring you kid to work day". Why can't I bring my dog on "Brig your dog to work day" (which does actually exist).
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't expect it to be the salespeople's choice. I think I'll try to send my inquiry to both corporate management and local management (if I can find the right contact information). I think getting a letter to someone local would be more valuable as they're likely to actually care about their local customers.
ReplyDeleteI've considered in the past getting Kuzca certified as a "service animal" because there was a loophole at my old job that said service animals could come to work. I think they've changed the wording at my current job to say that the dogs actually have to be in service. As far as I know, a therapy dog" is a service dog. :)
Nope, therapy dogs do not count as service dogs at REI. :(
ReplyDeleteNot only can we not stop people from bringing in slobbering children, but apparently not-so-sharp 10 year olds can run head-long into glass walls and the parents can then blame the store for not having enough stickers on said wall so that idiot, out-of-control kids can tell it's a glass wall. And then, the parents can also stick the store with the doctor's bill for fixing a bloody nose.
ReplyDeleteSir, is your kid really as bright as a bird? Then maybe he should be in a cage.
Wow. just Wow.
ReplyDeleteRelated to your other post: I've seen several cafes in Seattle with a similar sign with 'espresso and a free puppy'.
Cry me a river
ReplyDeleteI can't take my dog to my local REI either. Because the nearest one is 200+ miles away! Oh, and I don't have a dog either.
That sucks!
