Choices

Life is full of choices. Sometimes you choose the lesser of two evils, and sometimes you choose the greater of two goods. This choice falls into the latter category.

For my birthday Christine is taking us to Europe to go play and watch a big cyclocross race. (Isn't she the best?) The hard part is deciding which race to go to. The two options are:
1) World Championships in Tabor, Czech Republic (near Prague)
2) Final World Cup in Hoogerheide, Netherlands

Let me break it down:

  1. World Championships
    • It would be awesome to see a world championship. As an added bonus, American Katie Compton stands a very good chance of being the first American ever crowned world champion of cyclocross. That would be an amazing thing to be in attendance for.

    • Prague. I've never been, and about anyone who's been there says it's the bees knees. It would be a short trip though, so could I really appreciate it? Maybe it's be better in a warmer month?

    • We've got a friend from the Czech Republic that could give us a lot of information on things to see.

  2. World Cup Hoogerheide

    • While not quite as big as the world championship, it's still a pretty big deal. This is the last world cup of the season, and Katie Compton could win the overall WC standings.

    • Beer! With it's proximity to Belgium, going to this race would make it possible to revisit some places from our trip to Belgium last year. Including our favorite pub. That's tough to pass up, because I wasn't sure if we'd ever get to go back. I'd love to surprise the owners and see if they remember the goofy Americans from last year.

    • The trip is short, and being on familiar ground would make it easier to get settled without having to get reoriented.

    • Did I mention beer? One of the only Trappist Monasteries we haven't seen is in the Netherlands. But we can get their beer in the US, so maybe it's no big deal.

    • Brugge. It's cute, what can I say. Plus, it's the birthplace of New Belgium.

I can't decide.
