In case you hadn't heard, Sinclair Broadcasting Group is forcing their affiliates to broadcast an anti-Kerry film shortly before the election in a blatant attempt to sway public opinion. Sinclair is the largest owner of local television stations in the country with 62 stations in 39 markets. This is the same company that wouldn't let their affiliates broadcast the April 30, 2004 episode of Nightline in which Ted Koppel was to read the names of soldiers killed the Iraq war. I don't care where you stand politically, if you can't see that this is a serious abuse of public airwaves then you need to wake up.
There's some good information on Al Franken's blog about what you can do.
You can't be serious?
ReplyDeleteSo you feel the same way about CBS, NBC and ABC? How many Pro-Bush segments have the big three done? I can honestly say I have not seen any. So you are ok, with what Dan Rather did? Oh, I forgot the liberal motto, "Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story.” How many of the big three affiliates refused to show The SwiftVetsforTruth ads? I have heard of many cases, including the local CBS affiliates here in Toledo. How many have refused to air ads by the 527's funded by George Soros? I haven't heard of one. Then you have NPR which is funded by my tax dollars, which is nothing more than a mouth piece for the left. Then we have the movie theaters, which will show any propaganda the Michael Moore spews out. Will show any movie that shows Kerry or Bill Clinton in a good light. But how many will show Michael and Me, Michael Moore Hates America, or Fahrenhype 911? I have not been able to find one. So it is laughable that the left, which controls the majority of TV stations, radio stations, and newspapers, are going to complain, because 62 TV stations are going show an anti-Kerry Movie. Oh, I forgot freedom of speech is only for the left. We on the right don't have such freedoms.
Re: You can't be serious?
ReplyDeleteNPR uses more conservative commentators and citations than liberal commentators and citations.
Oh, and Ryan, this is what you get for letting non-friends reply to your posts :P
Re: You can't be serious?
ReplyDelete> How many Pro-Bush segments have the big three done?
Last time I checked, it's not their job to do pro/con political ads with my money.
>I forgot the liberal motto
The liberal motto? Oh, do tell, where on earth did you hear that?
>How many of the big three affiliates refused to show The
> SwiftVetsforTruth ads?
I don't know, you tell me. Should I be upset that ther affiliates didn't air a bunch of unfounded statements from a group of people who weren't with Kerry in action?
>Then you have NPR which is funded by my tax dollars, which is nothing
>more than a mouth piece for the left.
Examples? I've heard that more than once this politcal season, but I just don't get see it.
>But how many will show Michael and Me, Michael Moore Hates America,
>or Fahrenhype 911?
How many of those were released in wide distribution? And which of those have you watched? If I had to pick one to rent this weekend, which one should it be?
>Oh, I forgot freedom of speech is only for the left. We on the right
>don't have such freedoms.
Not so. Rush spews lies every day on the radio. :) And, even worse, he does it on Armed Forces Radio with nobody to provide a counterpoint.
I really hate the argment that the media has a liberal or conservative bias. There are plenty of examples of conservative bias in the media, and I'm sure there are plenty of examples of a liberal bias. It's sad, really, that it's difficult to get straight news and formulate your own opinion.

ReplyDeleteEven worse, Liv, it's family. *guffaw*

ReplyDeleteNow I'm in trouble! *shoot*
Re: You can't be serious?
ReplyDeleteRyan,
I originally wrote a long two page response. I was trying to post it, but the site wouldn’t let me. For some reason they were in read only mode.
I decided not to post it. Nothing we can say will change each others mind. I am going to Vote for Bush, and you are going to Vote for Kerry. That is what is great about this country, were free to make choices. Only time will be able to tell who was on the right side of history.
I guess you are yet another person I know. Who I will have to agree to disagree with, and not talk politics with, your sister is worried about us fighting. I am just tired of this whole election. I am tuning out till after it is all over. I am not watching the debate, no more news channels, no talk radio, no newspapers, and when a political ad comes on the TV or radio I turn the channel. Also, no more debating, life is too short.
I am not going to let who ever is in the White House control my life. No matter who wins, my life will still go on. I will still have my wife and kids, my family and friends, and that is all that matters. We are a strong country, and the best place to live on earth.
If and when we are attacked again, there will be no stopping us. The terrorist have not seen anything yet. We are not Spain. We as a country, no matter who is President we will not cower to any group or person.
This will be my farewell to commenting on your blog, and a goodbye to livejournal.com. I will not be the unwanted outsider.
I imagine I will see you sometime in the future. Well, maybe later then sooner, if you go to France over the Christmas holiday. Just think in less than a month you will be an Uncle again, you will have a new niece. Isn’t life great?
Good Bye!
Sloan
Re: You can't be serious?
ReplyDeleteLeave it to my sister to ruin the fun. :-P I was looking forward to some good information from the other side of the fence.
True, there is nothing you or I can say to each other that will change the other's mind, and I like that. How boring would it be if everyone agreed with me?
Now if you'll excuse me, I have a tree to hug and some dirt to worship...
